What can I say, I could not bear watching the game yesterday. Defense looking inept, offensive line looking like a thin veil and the coaches looking like amateurs. The whole team gets an F for the performance.
Okay, I don't know either but here's a rundown (and I'll update this as time goes on) of the potential coaching candidates being talked about:
Mike Shanahan is reportedly being interviewed for the position and seems to currently be the leading candidate. Even our (completely unscientific) poll shows our readers leaning in this direction.
I'll admit, I like the Shanahan option and hope it works out, especially given the unappealing alternative of John Gruden that's being floated out there. The Gruden rumor seems to be more about the hiring of Bill Allen (and his history of hiring Gruden) than anything the Redskins have done or alluded to.
I also don't think the volatile Gruden can get along with the owner long enough to make it through a season. Remember he (eventually) ran Tony Dungy's Buccaneers into the ground after alienating the good players on the team. Not to mention the quarterback situation was a fiasco during his time in Tampa.
Secondary coach Jerry Gray is also being floated as a candidate. Why this would be, especially given the last time they hired a coach that low on the totem pole and how that turned out, I have no idea (Zorn anyone?). This is probably to satisfy the Rooney rule which stipulates that minority candidates should be interviewed for each head coaching position that becomes available.
Not sure why all these coaching candidate names are being floated now with three weeks left in the season. I mean what are they gonna do after they make the decision, bring him in now to take over for the rest of the season? No, this is probably to further dare Jim Zorn to quit and save Dan Snyder a pile of money in the process.
I'll update this post with more as I come accross it. If anyone hears anything send it in to us at contact@dansnydermustgo.com or post it in the comments below.
My cell phone was buzzing with text messages this morning with the news that Vinny has resigned. I tell you what, that is the sweetest thing I have heard in a long time as far as the Redskins goes. I had planned to write a multi part post titling Vinny Cerrato Must go but I am glad to say that I don't have to toil writing that. So now the speculation game starts.
The Washington Post is reporting that Redskins' running back Clinton Portis believes his time in Washington is coming to an end.
In an interview during a team charity event earlier this week, Portis speculated that he thinks team owner Dan Snyder will let him go this off season as part of a number of changes that are expected to be made in an effort to halt the team's current losing ways.
"I would love to come back to this team, but that choice isn't mine" said Portis, adding that he thought he would have been activated for the Week 14 game against Oakland.
The team opted instead to place him on the injured reserve list, effectively ending his season.

On a side note: During his weekly John Thompson radio show appearance, Portis was asked about the recent Tiger Woods controversy and had some advice for the star:
"I say don’t get married, if it’s not out of your system. I’m not married.... If I find the temptation worth fulfilling, I'm gonna fulfill my temptation... I’m 28 years old, and I’m gonna enjoy my life."

Overall, good grades this week.
Offense:
JC: Awesome game. A+
Devin Thomas: A
Santana Moss: B. Too many drops.
Fred Davis: B+. Stop dancing in the endzone
Ganther/Mason/Rock: A
(Most point scored in a long time. What can I say. Everyone gets a good grade)
Defense:
Orakpo,Carter: A (They are managing to get themselves some sacks without Haynesworth)
Landry: A solid C+. The + is for the interception. The guy cannot be a free safety because he can't stop the double moves and the guy cannot cover opposing running backs/tight ends one on one when they are lined up as receivers. Blache predicted a pro-bowl year for Landry. This is not how pro-bowl safties play.
London Fletcher: A. solid, dependable, as always.
Special Team:
Gano: A+ Seemed accurate. Definitley an upgarde in kickoffs. They guy has a strong leg. I was againt the Suisham cut. If this guy ramains accurate, this was a good move by Vinny.
Randell El: F. He should not be returning punts.
Lorenzo Alexander: A+ , had some awesome tackles.
